Title: a website for new Chinese students
Nowadays, with the development of society and economy, a huge number of Chinese students plan to study abroad. For the western students, that may not a difficult matter. However, most of Chinese students do not know how to deal with the issues about study abroad. The main reason is that they cannot find the useful information sources about application of majors and visa that are most important. The second reason is that there are many study abroad agencies that can help students to do all the things, such as, how to apply for major, how to choose university, and how to get Visa in China. Thus, some students have to depend on study abroad agencies despite of sometimes they have cheat actions and high fee, about 1500Euro to 3000Euro. However, in fact, this work itself is not very difficult, just troublesome. Students are able to do them by themselves. Thus, in my final project, I introduce the detail information about this of University of limerick for Chinese students who want to study in UL.
My website has three parts: study, entertainment and forum.
In section 1, study, there are three sub-parts: before coming to Ireland, studying universities and majors. It may very easy for western students but it is very hard for Chinese students to do that because most of them know less application information. Thus, I will give them the whole detail process of application of our university; explain some proper nouns and interview of application; and it is necessary for some Chinese students to take an English course in language centre that will be mentioned.
When coming Ireland, there are several flight lines from China to Ireland, but the final airport is Dublin Airport only. I will show the line and bus the students take from Dublin to Limerick and from Limerick to accommodation that is the matter Chinese parents worry about. In this section, I will introduce the particular of every module in each major, which can help students to study better.
At last, when students finish their study, their degrees and diplomas need an authentication in China Embassy in Dublin and an authentication in Beijing Language and culture University. That is important and necessary for Chinese students.
In the second part, I will introduce some entertainment, activities and trips, such as seeing dolphins in sea and Chinese meeting every week and upload some interesting photograph and reflections of students.
In the third part, I will set up a forum in which future students and current students can communication. Current students give some advances or suggestions about study and life in Ireland for new ones and the future students also ask all kinds of questions about UL and Ireland.
In the whole process, I plan to use some softwares that I learned in semester 1, Dreamweaver, photoshop, flash and some skills in semester 2. I also use the “user centred design” method that I learned in module Foundation of Interactive Media to design and make my website. Firstly, I plan to interview some Chinese students including undergruates and postgruates who can give us the real need. And then, I want to draw the requirements according to step 1. The third step is making the website and at last, I ask some users to evaluate my project. If they have some questions and suggestion, I will amend and improve it.
